Step 1: Sort your ride
First things first: you’ll need a bike. And not just any bike, but one that actually works (rain or shine), doesn’t ghost you after two rides, and doesn’t involve waiting in line at a repair shop every month.
That’s where Swapfiets comes in. With our bike subscription, you get a high-quality ride (pedal or e-Bike), free repairs, and the joy of worry-free biking. And the best bit? If you're already a member, you can take your current bike with you to your new city. Just let us know, and we’ll handle the logistics.

Step 2: Know the (bike) code of the city
Copenhagen loves bikes, but it also loves rules. Here’s a quick starter pack:
Stick to the bike lanes, always.
Use hand signals (yes, even if it feels awkward).
Lights on after dark (Swapfiets bikes have this covered).
Don’t text while riding. We see you.
Step 3: Upgrade your commute with an e-Bike
Let’s be honest, some of those commutes can get long, especially when you're new to a city. This is the perfect moment to level up to an e-Bike.
With speeds up to 25 km/h and ranges up to 185 km on a single charge, our Power 1 and Power 7 e-Bikes help you zip across the city without breaking a sweat. Bridges, wind tunnels, early meetings? Consider them handled.
It’s a smooth, quiet ride that makes commuting feel like a joy ride. And since it's a subscription, there's free check-ups and repairs as well as the freedom to cancel (or upgrade) anytime.
Step 4: Park it right!
Park your bike in a proper bike rack, indoor facility, or clearly marked parking spot, and always lock it to something solid and secure. Double locks = double peace of mind.
Google Maps is spot-on for cycling routes, and most of the time, biking takes just as long as public transport—except you get fresh air, zero delays, and way more joy along the way.
Got an e-Bike? Don’t forget to take out the battery when you park and double-lock the bike, especially if you're leaving it overnight. For extra peace of mind, our Full Theft Coverage means that if your properly locked bike ever gets stolen, we’ll replace it (for a very small cost). It’s a little add-on, but it makes a big difference.
Step 5: Avoid biking during rush hour in Copenhagen
Unless you love biking in slow-motion and elbow-to-elbow crossings, try to avoid rush hour (roughly 08:00–09:00 and 17:00–18:00). It’s when thousands of bikers flood the streets, and junctions turn into two-wheeled traffic jams. Not the vibe. If you’re not in a hurry, wait it out, grab a coffee, and enjoy a smoother ride once the rush has calmed.
If you find yourself caught in the rush, don’t stress. We have a fun little game for you to play: just take it slow and start counting the blue front tyres you spot along the way. You’ll be surprised how many fellow Swapfiets riders are right there with you.
