Why this award really matters

The German Sustainability Projects Award highlights projects that make real progress in circularity, environmental impact, and innovative design. Check out all the details on the official award website. Winning in the Recycling category recognises that what we are building helps set a new direction for the bike industry, less waste, smarter design, and measurable impact.

Our latest e-bike: circularity in action

Our new e-bike took the top spot because of a clear boost in circularity, 17% higher than its predecessor. 75% of the bike’s parts can be reused or recycled at end of life. This means fewer bikes sent to landfills and more valuable materials finding new uses.

  • Mono-material parts: Forget the recycling headache of mixed materials. Our new design uses parts that are easy to separate and recycle.

  • Modular for repairs: Rather than discarding the whole bike for one broken part, repairs are simple. Quick swaps keep bikes rolling instead of ending up as waste.

  • Built to last: Built for commutes and city rides, our e-bikes handle daily wear with ease. Rent a bike, ride it hard, and trust it to last.

A smarter approach to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Where many bike brands aim for the lowest price, we look at the complete picture, total cost of ownership. This covers service, repairs, maintenance, and end-of-life recycling.

  • Pay a bit more upfront, but less over time thanks to reusable parts and less frequent replacements.

  • Bikes spend more time with riders, not in repair shops.

  • Monthly bike rental and long term bike rental models mean you get reliable, sustainable rides without the headaches.

With a Swapfiets subscription, you get dependable service and a smooth cycling experience that saves you time, money, and hassle.

Better cycling, better cities

It is about more than just bike parts. We want cities full of people riding, not stuck behind car steering wheels. Before using Swapfiets, 32% of our high-frequency members were relying on cars or motorcycles. Now they zip around on electric bike subscriptions instead. More people on bikes means quieter roads, cleaner air, and a more active community.

What makes Swapfiets different?

We combine circular design with real convenience. There’s no need to choose between doing what’s right for the environment and having a fun, reliable cycling experience. Thanks to our modular repair system, most fixes happen in minutes and parts are reused, not wasted.

Onwards and upwards

Winning the German Sustainability Projects Award is a major milestone, but we see it as fuel to go even further. We will keep making bikes more circular, efficient, and user-friendly, helping members and cities move in the right direction.
